Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen, who is known internationally for his role as Le Chiffre in Casino Royale (2006), is to play the Russian composer Igor Stravinskij in a new movie directed by William Friedkin (The Exorcist, The French Connection). According to ritzau/Politiken, the film has the working title Igor & Coco, and it’s about the love affair between Stravinsky and Coco Chanel.
It’s great for Mikkelsen to get another international role, but I wouldn’t get my hopes up for a masterpiece, since so many movies about artists, in my opinion, turn out to be awful. Films like The Music Lovers (1970, starring Richard Chamberlain as Tchaikovsky) and Surviving Picasso (1996, with Anthony Hopkins as Pable Picasso) are on my personal Top 10 list of worst movies ever made.
